The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 如果有让人感觉热血沸腾的话，那应该是真的吧。听到这句话，又觉得真真切切被煽到了，哪怕只有一瞬间呢，那也都是真的啊，真的励志，真的不服输，真的在扬眉吐气啊，小人物的故事永远是激动人心，哪怕沾染上这么多现实中的是是非非。

2022.01.31 二刷粤语版，超多俗语超多梗，观感比普通话版好太多。以动画为叙事媒介，虽有些稍嫌夸张化违和的部分，却也反而得以刻画到了真人电影因拍摄或者审查限制所无法触及的现实边界。前半段没预期那么不堪，结尾高潮也没想像中那么燃，倒是中段因情感细节填充得足够翔实而相当动人。尽管模式套路化，依旧没忍住落泪了好几次。初看是个周星驰式小人物咸鱼翻身奋力向上的励志悲情喜剧，彩蛋却画风一转把主角拉回了不见尽头的劳碌现实。舞狮登顶的风光无限不过是对于先前旷日持久落魄挣扎的一次愤懑宣泄，再努力也难以看到出路才是这种生活的真正底色。二十多年前，大家或许还相信登上一个巅峰之后，一切都会开始变得更好，如今的励志文本之下则可能更多潜藏了对现实发出的诘问：“赢了又如何？” 而这个问题，又有谁能短时间内给出答案。
影片里的强哥就对主角说过要不是看你眼睛里闪烁着一丝纯良，我还以为你是刚从监狱里出来呢。想来其实对于我来说，不管是小眼睛还是大眼睛，只要眼神有戏，人物有精气神，有故事，我就乐意看。那些说眯眯眼加深了外国人的刻板印象的算不算另一种崇洋媚外呢？亦或是，换成了迪士尼大眼，你们还会说崇洋媚外吗？哪吒魔童降世那句著名的“人的成见就像一座大山”，直到现在对于一些人来说仍然就只是一句台词而已。去看看吧，不要不承认，底层人物就是这么不好看，阿猫阿狗就是这么丑，但是他们的眼里闪着的光，永远都在告诉着我们什么是醒狮精神。[笑]
景致出色，各种大远景像壁纸一样漂亮，各种近景狮头又特别华丽。中国动画做到这种拟真效果还真实第一次见。导演拥有在很短时间内配合着镜头+音效就把情绪顶上去的能力。弱势群体+地域文化也是我喜欢的题材，这比那些神话故事贴近社会多了。缺点方面部分笑点有些尬，阿猫阿狗人设有些纸片，剧情稍微有些俗套，总的来说瑕不掩瑜。特别值得去影院看！

本来三星半的片子，因为彩蛋能给到四星，并没有传说中的好，卖情怀不能拯救国漫，不知道为什么圈内人如此尬吹，可能票房也说明了还没破圈吧
前半段挺差的，励志直白，笑点尴尬，后半段一下就顶起来了。另，从外貌都能觉得乳滑的人，别看电影了，看精神科吧。
身在客乡独思亲，不在山东在广东，扫地僧出场不多，没有闲笔，半梦半醒半疯癫，深藏功与名，高手在民间。
1⃣️看到最后就三个字：燃爆了。我整个人内心就直接疯狂卧槽卧槽卧槽？？？？结束时整个影院疯狂鼓掌👏👏确实最后把我惊艳到了（有点欧亨利式结尾的感觉2333）
希望少年们都不止低头看脚下路，保持内心的呐喊和身披盔甲的向往，让梦想再度珍贵起来。
热血并不会贯穿一生，但只要有过信念 就足以照亮灰暗的时刻，该上山下山，路还是在脚下。喜欢朴实生动的乡村镜头和结尾的克制。
编剧的烂梗是真的尬住，剧情老套，但是探讨的阶级/梦想之议题值得鼓励
